Accuplacer Placement Testing

ACCUPLACER tests are untimed, so you can move at a comfortable pace. It’s important to give yourself enough time to do your best and complete the test because your results are the key factor in determining the courses you can take. Your results will be available immediately after you take the test. If you are not finished by the time we close we will ask that you save your exam, and you will need to come back another day and finish (Must be within 1 week of your start day).

The test consists of two sections Reading Comprehension, and Writing (English). There is a $10.00 fee per section. We do not accept cash. Some form of electronic payment is required (ex. debit card, credit card, or e-check). Only the cashier’s office can process cash payments for Placement Testing (located on the 1st floor of the HCC Building). A receipt of payment is required at the time of testing as proof of payment.

You will receive a whiteboard, marker, and an eraser for any figuring work throughout the exam. Before you begin there will be a section where you will be required to answer some background questions. Answer them the best you can. You will need a student ID# (Digital ID#) to test. Reach out to your Admissions, Concurrent Enrollment, or Success Academy Counselor if you do not know your D#.

  • NG Reading Comprehension(ECON & POLS) – 20 to 25 questions.
  • NG Writing (English & History) – 20 to 25 questions.

Remote Testing: Getting Started

  • To request a remote placement test, please send an email to proctor@utahtech.edu. Please use “Remote Placement” as the subject line. In the body of the email please list your name and Utah Tech student number. Be sure to include which section(s) of the placement test you are interested in taking remotely.
  • Please be aware that remote placement testing requires the use of software hosted by private-sector testing vendors. Testing Services at Utah Tech will help facilitate your exam. However, all technical support issues must be addressed directly by the third-party vendor.
  • Please be aware that Math and English placement exams use different exam vendors and each has its own separate process for payment and registration. We will provide you with either set of instructions (or Both), depending on the remote exam(s) that you request.

Accuplacer Remote Testing

Fee Schedule:

  • Reading (Exam Unit, paid to UT) $10.00
  • Writing (Exam Unit, paid to UT) $10.00
  • Examity (Proctor Fee, paid to Examity) $25.00

ALEKS Remote Testing

ALEKS exams can be taken remotely via a software called Respondus Lockdown Monitor. Students should be aware that there are additional fees associated with taking the ALEKS remotely and that additional steps are necessary to coordinate and validate remote exams. These additional steps could lengthen scoring turnaround times.

Remote ALEKS Fees:

  • $17 Access Fee: Paid to ALEKS when registering for an account
  • $10 Remote ALEKS Fee, (For video review) Paid to UT’s Testing Center before each attempt
  • $10 License Fee, Paid to Respondus Lockdown Monitor (This fee is paid once, and covers multiple attempts from home).
  • Total: $37 for an initial attempt + $10 for each additional attempt.

Please be aware that remote testing sessions are video recorded and that exam recordings are reviewed by a proctor. If a student is found to be cheating in any way, remote testing privileges may be revoked and a student may be required to retest in person at a testing center.

Exam results take 24-48 hours to update on your student account. Once updated you will be able to register for a UT Course. The week of registration and the week before classes start are busy times at the testing center.  Processing times for remote exams will be slower during those weeks. Please plan accordingly, and coordinate your remote exam outside of those times if possible.
